Local certified Aromatherapist Rachel Dufour is bringing her various scent and oil creations to none other than Mosier Family Chiropractic, and she is inviting the community to come join in on the excitement this evening, September 2, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm for her open house celebration!

The open house will be at the chiropractic office, 1110 W Mulberry St, Salem. Refreshments will be available, and Dufour plans to give a short presentation at 5:30 p.m. on what aromatherapy is and the benefits it can provide. But that is not all! You even have the chance to enter into a raffle for a basket of her essential oil products valued at more than $100, plus a free 30-minute massage.

When explaining why she got into essential oils to begin with, she said it all started with the diagnosis of several autoimmune issues.

“When I got diagnosed with several autoimmune conditions, I realized there were a lot of simple things I could do in my life to support feeling my best despite them,” she said.

She began swapping household products that used artificial fragrance for homemade cleaners, the first being a window spray to replace Windex. She also eventually made an inhaler for energy, a lotion for lymphatic support, and blends for sleep and stress.

“I slowly realized that using essential oils as the fragrance started impacting how I felt,” she said. “The lemon in my DIY cleaner made my home feel bright and clean, and it made my brain feel more clear.

“I directly saw a positive impact from using essential oils and I just knew this was my calling and passion in life,” she added. “Since then, I’ve built my business through years of research, my professional certification, and firsthand experience seeing others benefit from my products.”

Dufour describes essential oils as the concentrated essence of a plant, “stronger than simple extracts or infusions.”

“One drop of lemon essential oil equals about three to four entire lemons,” she said. “That’s strong.”

She used the example of peppermint. She stated that someone who drinks peppermint tea for an upset stomach could instead dilute one drop of peppermint essential oil in a tablespoon of carrier oil and rub it on the belly.

“There’s an oil for pretty much any goal you might have, and there’s an infinite number of blends you can make with different oils,” Dufour said. “If you’re looking for something simple like a pesky skin tag, try tea tree. If you’re looking to lower your stress and feel more grounded, try a deeper oil like frankincense or vetiver.”

For more complicated situations, such as chronic arthritis while on blood thinners, she asks people to book a consultation for a custom blend.

Speaking of consultations, she is happy to announce that she will be beginning to accept clients on September 9th, and you can book online or by phone. Plan to fill out a form covering your goals, basic medication information and lifestyle details such as stress levels. She will then sit down with you to talk through options and build custom formulations. In the follow-up visit, she will go over how to use the products.

In addition to seeing Dufour directly at Mosier Family Chiropractic, you can pick up a lot of her products daily at the Salem Apothecary on the Salem Square. Online, she posts education, DIY recipes, and occasional sale codes at @rdaromatherapy and rdaromatherapy.com. Additionally, she authors a column on The Washington County Times website titled “Scents & Sensibility” where she dives deep into all the ins and outs of essential oils and aromatherapy.

“Essential oils are my passion in life, and I’m so excited to be able to share it with all of you on a more individual level now,” she said.
