Mitchell "Mitch" Keith Davis, age 43, of Salem, passed away Friday, October 31, 2025 at his residence. Born November 12, 1981 in Jeffersonville, he was the son of Monty Reisinger and Nancy (Shepherd) Reisinger.

Carolyn Maxine Potter, age 85 of Salem, passed away Sunday, November 2, 2025, in her residence. Born April 26, 1940 in Salem, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late John and Nora (Lockhart) Reinhardt.

On September 29th, 2024, Salem Police Officer Dylan England responded to an alarm activation at the Washington County Food Bank, adjacent Rustic Cuts Hair Salon. Officer England noticed pry marks on a side door upon arrival, suggesting an attempted forced entry. 

The Humane Society of Washington County will host a Soup and Chili Lunch Fundraiser on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the American Legion, located at 105 W. Hugh Veteran Drive in Salem. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the event will feature a variety of meal options, including chili, chicken noodle soup, vegetable soup, hot dogs, and grilled cheese, along with soft drinks and desserts. With Indiana’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits set to lapse on November 1, the Washington County Food Bank is preparing for what could be a significant increase in local families needing food assistance.

On October 30, Washington County emergency responders received a dispatch call at 3:58 pm regarding a single-vehicle wreck at the roundabout intersecting Jackson Street and the Salem Bypass. The dispatch call stated that the vehicle flipped off the road and came to a rest on its top.

Michael Earl Cruse, age 68, of Salem, passed away Tuesday, October 28 at his home. Mr. Cruse was born August 13, 1957, in Floyd County, Indiana, the son of Earl Cruse and Margaret Lynch Rose.

The D. Jack Mahuron Education Fund was established at the Washington County Community Foundation to encourage educators and staff to teach in innovative ways. This year, the fund has awarded several teachers in the county school corporations approximately $9,000.00.

Grants totaling over $120,000.00 were awarded to organizations serving Washington County by the donors of the Washington County Community Foundation for the Fall 2025 grant cycle. Grants are primarily awarded from the Foundation’s Touch Tomorrow Funds.

Willamina Jerilynn Davida Miller, went to be with Jesus on Sunday, October 26, 2025. Willamina was born on September 8, 2025 in Louisville, Kentucky, the daughter of Jerry A. Miller and Mary G. Miller.
