Cathy Louise Davis, age 74 of Salem, passed away Monday, July 21, 2025, in Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Salem. Born November 26, 1950 in New Albany, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Bernis “Copper” A. and Ruby L. (Barksdale) Davis.

Cathy grew up in Salem. She was a 1969 graduate of Salem High School and loved to read. Cathy may be remembered for her days working for her parents in The Copper Kettle restaurant. She always had a way to lighten the mood and make people laugh. Cathy was passionate about sports, particularly Indiana University basketball, Notre Dame football and the Scottsburg Warriorettes basketball team. She lived for the Derby, as it was a special event for the family. Cathy’s favorite movie was Hoosiers. She was so happy to go with family to the gym in Knightstown, Indiana where the gym scenes were filmed, and shot a few hoops with her son. Cathy loved to travel, and made so many fond memories, especially visiting the Holy Land, and her son in California and Utah several times.

Cathy retired from Dairy Queen in Louisville and was a member of the New Beginnings Non Denominational Church in New Albany. She was known as the go-to person for anyone who desperately needed prayer, support and encouragement. Cathy was generous beyond her own means and was loyal, trusting and loving to anyone she met.

Cathy had a heart of gold, the memory of an elephant and was the ultimate hype woman. She loved all of us so deeply and had a way of making people feel like the most important person in the room. She was hilarious and had the most contagious laugh. We will miss her jokes, stories and humor she always brought to every situation, as well as her prayers and infectious energy.

Survivors include: Son: William “Billy” M. (Johnny) de Barbarac of Salem; Mother: Ruby Davis of Salem; Sister: Loretta Geswein of Clarksville; 2 nieces: Alyssa Smith of Fishers, Indiana and Michelle Geswein of New Albany; 7 great nieces and nephews and several cousins.

Cathy was preceded in death by her brother Max Wayne Davis and her father, Copper Davis.

Cremation was her wish. A Celebration of Cathy’s Life will take place at New Beginnings Church in New Albany. Details will be announced soon. Arrangements by Dawalt Funeral Home.
