Washington County elementary students will soon receive a new educational coloring book highlighting local people, places, and history with the upcoming release of Coloring Washington County 2026, created by Coloring My Town.

Coloring My Town is a community-based publishing company that works with local schools, businesses, nonprofits, and community leaders to produce coloring books designed specifically for elementary-age children. Each edition focuses on elements unique to the community, aiming to help students learn more about where they live through an interactive format.

According to the company, every elementary school student in Washington County will receive a free copy of the book. The distribution is made possible through support from local sponsors. Teachers will also receive additional copies for classroom use, allowing the books to serve as both an educational resource and a keepsake for students.

The Coloring Washington County 2026  edition includes illustrations and content featuring local schools, community leaders, businesses, historical elements, fun facts, healthy living messages, and popular local destinations. Organizers say the book is intended to foster a sense of pride and connection to the community, while also encouraging family engagement.

Coloring My Town has previously produced similar books in communities across North Carolina and neighboring states, where the program has received positive feedback from educators, parents, and community leaders. The Washington County edition marks the first time the project has been introduced locally.

Previous editions of Coloring... include Scott and Jackson Counties.

“This is about more than a coloring book,” said Tara Wallace, Vice President and Co-Owner of Coloring My Town. “It’s about helping children see themselves as part of something bigger... their schools, their community, and their future.”
