David Maudlin

Submitted by Mia Maudlin

David Maudlin, age 78, of Jeffersonville, Indiana passed away on April 13, 2026 in the Hosparus InPatient Care Center at Norton Pavillion. Mr. Maudlin was born in New Albany, Indiana to John Nelson Maudlin and Manilla Tatlock Maudlin.

After graduating from Salem High School in 1965, David entered business school at Indiana University Southeast and soon discovered he was a great card player. Without enough money for a second year of school, he enlisted in the US Army before he could be drafted. With his test scores and luck, he was able to join the Army Security Agency 117 stationed in South Korea. While there, he met and married the love of his life, Chong Cha Yang. After returning from the military, David began working with his mother at Salem Title and started his own tax preparation practice on the Salem Square. David prepared tax returns for much of the community and helped his mother grow the title business. David took over operations of Salem Title providing real estate closing services to many in Southern Indiana.

Since his retirement in 2003, David and Chong Cha have enjoyed traveling the world – embarking on many cruises and traveling around the globe. From US and North American National Parks – to cruising the Amazon River in South America and the Yangtze River in China – to swimming with the native Princesses in Bora Bora – to celebrating a World Cup win in Morocco. He was always up for a travel adventure, taking his entire family for Holiday Cruises in 2023 and 2024 and to Iceland in 2025.

A lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, David leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years Chong Cha, his two children Mia Maudlin (Sebastien Berry) and Lewis Maudlin (Kim Jackson Maudlin), and three grandchildren Ava and Tyra Berry and Connor Maudlin. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Freda Schmitt Scheibe.

In accordance with David’s wishes, no public service is planned at this time, but a celebration of life will be announced later this spring.
