Emilee McCartney Suspends Congressional Campaign

Emilee McCartney, who earlier this year launched a campaign for Indiana’s 9th Congressional District, announced this week that she is suspending her run for federal office.

In a public statement, McCartney cited her reasons for stepping back from the race. “Life has presented me with personal responsibilities that require my full attention,” she said. “I believe public service demands a similar commitment. I cannot in good conscience continue this campaign if I’m unable to give it everything I have.”

McCartney, a Salem native and political content creator, first announced her campaign in April. She ran on a platform that included economic reform, Medicare for all, and changes to immigration policy. Her campaign focused heavily on transparency and encouraging open conversations across political lines as a moderately left-leaning Democrat.

While her congressional bid is coming to an end, McCartney made it clear that she intends to remain involved in public service. In the same statement, she announced her intention to run for a seat on the Lawrence County Council.

“I remain deeply passionate about bringing empathy, integrity, and transparency to government, and I believe that work starts right here in our communities,” she said.

McCartney thanked her supporters and emphasized that her shift in focus was not a retreat, but a redirection. “This is not the end of my journey in public service,” she said. “Your encouragement means the world, and I’m looking forward to making a tangible difference at the local level.”
