Infant Girl Killed by Dog in Brownstown

Updated: Apr 5

A 2-month-old baby girl has died following a tragic dog attack Thursday afternoon southeast of Brownstown, according to multiple reports.

Authorities received a 911 call around 12:26 p.m. from a residence in the 1800 block of South County Road 100E. The caller, the infant’s mother, reported that her daughter had been attacked by a dog, later identified as a pit bull.

Emergency personnel arrived within minutes and immediately began CPR. Due to the severity of the infant’s injuries, first responders made the decision to transport her in a sheriff’s department vehicle to a predetermined air ambulance landing zone at the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department. However, with the air ambulance still grounded, it was ultimately decided to continue emergency transport by ground via Jackson County Emergency Medical Services.

Despite ongoing CPR efforts throughout the transport, the infant was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour.

The case remains under investigation by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, led by Detective Clint Burcham.

The pit bull involved in the attack is currently being held at the Jackson County K-9 Control Center.
