Louis P. Rivas, age 71, passed away Monday, December 15, 2025 at his home in Pekin, Indiana. Born on January 19, 1954 in Verdun, France, he was the son of Luis I. Rivas Burgos and Reine M. (Maré) Rivas.

Louis spent his childhood and adolescence traveling the world with his family as his father served in the U.S. Army. Eventually, his family settled in Louisville, Kentucky where he lived for the majority of his life. Louis would go on to enlist in the U.S. Navy and served his country for 4 years from 1973-1977. He worked for Humana for 18 years before moving on to other employment and retired from Amazon in 2023.

Louis had a brilliant sense of humor and loved to laugh. He was a history buff, a lover of music (mostly classic rock and particularly the band Queen), an avid sci-fi fan, and could talk at length about outer space and enjoyed exploring the idea of extra-terrestrial life. Louis was a fan of the University of Louisville Cardinals and loved cheering them on in basketball and football, always watching the games on TV with his family. He adored cats and spent much of his life sharing his home with a feline friend or two.

More than all of that, Louis loved his family. He cherished the time spent with his dad, sister, and children, but was especially enamored with his only grandson. He was awestruck by Brayden and would light up every time they were together.

Louis is survived by his father, Luis I. Rivas Burgos; siblings, Sylvia N. Rivas and Luis I. Rivas, Jr.; children, Ashleigh Dennison (Chris) and Louis P. Rivas II; stepson, Devin Hoffman; grandson, Brayden Dennison, and his cat, Ozzy. He is also survived by extended family in the U.S., France, and Puerto Rico.

Louis was preceded in death by his mother, Reine M. (Maré) Rivas; wife, Susan (Carman) Rivas (mother to Devin Hoffman); and wife, Carol J. (Wells) Rivas (mother to Louis P. Rivas II).

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Hughes-Taylor Funeral Home was entrusted with funeral care.
