Obituary: Larry Vernon Collins

Larry Vernon Collins, 72, passed away on June 20th in the loving arms of his wife at Norton Pavilion in Louisville.


He was a retired truck driver for 50 years with 4 million safe miles. The last 36 years were with Hass Carriage in Sellersburg, Indiana.


Larry was born June 2, 1953 to the late Vernon and Eula Mae (Hendrix) Collins.


He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Marilyn; a daughter, Kristie (Eric) Zemlicka; 2 grandsons: Weldon and Danzig Zemlicka: stepson Paul (Amy) Haynes and a granddaughter, Madalyn Rose Haynes. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved sister, Gail (Alton) Baker and a host of family members and truly great friends.


Larry was blessed with the opportunity to be a father figure for several children in his lifetime. Michelle Wilcox and her family remained close to him.


Larry was fun loving and loved life. He especially enjoyed restoring old cars, camping with friends and spent all his free time with his furry side kick, Chip.


A gathering for friends and family will be held at the Salem Senior Citizens Center from 9:30 until 11 am on Friday.


A memorial service will be held 1 pm on Friday at Dawalt Funeral Home in Salem, Indiana.


Visitation will be Friday from 11:00 am until the time of the service.
