Several headstones damaged in Crown Hill Cemetery car accident

On Monday afternoon, Salem emergency responders responded to a single-vehicle accident at Crown Hill Cemetery.

Officials say the driver mistook the gas pedal for the brake, causing her to drive through a street sign and several headstones.

Officer Michael Thacker informed us that children were involved, but that their injuries were minor (bumps and bruises).

Responding departments included City of Salem Fire Department, Salem Police Department, Washington County Ambulance Service and Salem Wrecker Service.

Corey Churchman from Marshall Monuments also arrived and assessed the damage of the headstones.

“As a member of our community, I feel it is my responsibility to repair these headstones and honor the lives of those who are no longer with us,” said Churchman.
