Sharon Ann Smedley

Sharon Ann Smedley, age 81 of Salem, Indiana passed away Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 3:51 pm, in Baptist Health Floyd New Albany, Indiana.


Born August 22, 1944, in Peru, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Grant H. Zook and Vera (Boys) Zook.


She was a member of the First Christian Church of Salem where she played the piano for 40 years. She had been a resident of Washington County for most of her life. She was a 1962 graduate of Peru High School and a 1966 graduate of Purdue University. She served on the Washington County Fair Board as Secretary for 45 years and as Treasurer for Relay for Life for 20 years.


She was a 4-H and Girl Scout leader, a graduate of Awareness Washington County and was a member of the Indiana Association of Fairs and Festivals Hall of Fame. She was a former Extension Agent for Washington, Scott, and Hamilton counties.


She was a former employee of Myers Industries, Mamma Rosa's, and a former substitute teacher for Salem schools.


On November 18, 1973, she married Lawrence "Corky" Smedley, who passed away June 27, 1986.



Survivors include:

Daughter: Lara (Stephen) Rogers of Rineyville, KY;

Brother: John (Sheila) Zook of Eden, Wisconsin.


She is also survived by 3 grandchildren:

McKenzie (Brent) King, Zackery Rogers, and Jackson Rogers and 1 great granddaughter KayLynn King and many nieces and nephews.



Visitation: 4 to 8 pm Wednesday at Dawalt Funeral Home and after 11 am Thursday at First Christian Church of Salem.


Funeral Service: 1:00 pm Thursday, March 19 at the First Christian Church of Salem with Zepplin Perry officiating.


Interment and Committal will follow at Smedley Cemetery near Salem.
