On Sunday evening, August 24, 2025, at approximately 7:48 p.m., Washington County EMS, the City of Salem Fire Department, and officers with the Salem Police Department responded to a reported two-vehicle collision with injuries near the intersection of Quarry Road and North Jeans Drive.
Upon arrival, officers and first responders located the two vehicles, both of which had sustained significant damage – a 2006 Honda Civic and a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox, the latter of which had overturned as a result of the collision.
The driver of the Equinox was assisted from her vehicle by first responders at the scene.
Preliminary investigation by the Salem Police Department revealed that the driver of the Civic was traveling westbound on Quarry Road and reported that the setting sun was directly impairing his vision, preventing him from clearly seeing the roadway and oncoming traffic. The driver stated that he did not see the Equinox prior to impact.
The driver of the Equinox reported to officers that she was traveling eastbound on Quarry Road and observed the Civic in her lane as she rounded the curve in the road. She attempted to move further to the right to avoid a collision, but her vehicle was struck on the front driver’s side. The impact caused her vehicle to overturn and come to rest in a nearby ditch.
The Salem Police Department reports that both drivers sustained injuries and received immediate medical attention on scene.
At this time, alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be contributing factors in the crash.
