William Maurice "Bill" Gilstrap Jr.

Submitted by Dawalt Funeral Home

Maurice William Gilstrap Jr., also known as Bill to everyone who loved and adored him. Bill was a life-long resident of Pekin, IN, and died unexpectedly on May 1, 2026 at the young age of 81.

Born on September 21, 1944 in Kentucky. Bill found joy in the outdoors and especially Camping with his loving wife Carol and friends. Whether he was camping, spending time outside, tinkering in the garage, or playing euchre on Friday nights, he was most content when life was centered on the things that mattered most to him. You could often find him coaching IU sports or Cincinnati Reds from his recliner.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife, Carol, of 49 years along with his children David, Fred, and Beth Lynn, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many more extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Bunny and sister Annie. Their memories remained close to his heart throughout his life.

Though he is no longer with us, the legacy of Bill lives on in the hearts of his family and friends. His life was a testament to strength, faith, and the importance of standing firm in one’s beliefs while cherishing the people who matter most. Bill never missed an opportunity to assist those in need.

It was therefore no surprise that he chose to designate himself as a tissue donor through the Network for Hope. Through this generous act, he has the potential to help up to 75 individuals. Bill will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Per his request Dawalt Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements and there will not be a funeral service and cremation was chosen by the family.
