"Back in Line" with Dr. Mosier: Oh, How Things Have Changed

From wringing chickens in Sunday dresses to naked cannonballs in kiddie pools — every generation has its stories. As our family and practice step into a new season, we’re grateful to grow through the changes together.

There I was, setting up textbooks and little figurines in my office at our new building, when I decided to head home and walk Ryder over to my parents’ house for our Memorial Day dinner.

As I got closer, I could hear laughing and splashing coming from the backyard. Naturally, I had to investigate.

And there it was…

“Butt cheeks.”

Ethan, my 3-year-old with the confidence and attitude of a 13-year-old, was completely naked in my parents’ brand-new blow-up kiddie pool.

Honestly, I don’t even think that boy realized he was naked. He was having the absolute time of his life.

Later that evening, as we all sat around eating dinner, I mentioned how much things have changed since I was a kid. Nana and Papa are absolutely spoiling these boys… new sandbox, new kiddie pool, and don’t even get me started on the amount of snacks they buy them.

The conversation eventually shifted to grandparents spending time with their grandkids. Mom and Dad both started reminiscing about their own grandparents and memories of raising chickens. Apparently, it wasn’t uncommon for their grandmothers to be outside tending chickens while wearing their Sunday dresses.

Now this is where the story takes a disturbing turn.

Both of them casually explained how, every so often, their grandmothers would simply grab a chicken and—with one quick flick of the wrist—break its neck for dinner.

Then, to make matters worse, they demonstrated the move at the dinner table as if they had witnessed this hundreds of times growing up.

The look on my face must have been pure horror.

They laughed and said, “You had a privileged childhood.”

I replied, “No… you all had a traumatizing one.”

Oh, how things have changed.

And speaking of change… this week marks a huge transition for Mosier Family Chiropractic.

This is our final week in the office that has allowed us to serve hundreds of families over the past nine years. So many memories, conversations, victories, and life changes happened within these walls.

Next week, we begin moving all of our equipment into our new location, and we would love for you to be part of this exciting new chapter with us.

We officially invite you to join us for our Grand Opening on June 6 from 12–2 PM.

Now, this transition may not be quite as dramatic as going from “grandma wringing chickens’ necks” to “kids eating ice cream before dinner and jumping straight from the pool to the dinner table”… but it is a meaningful one for our family and our practice.

And personally, I just want to say thank you.

Thank you for allowing us to serve you, grow with you, and now step into this next season together.

Your friend,

Dr. Mosier
