Benefit for 5-Year-Old with Rare Disorder to Be Held at West Washington

This Saturday, June 7, the Washington County community plans to come together in a show of support for one of its youngest members. Five-year-old Norah Richards, who was diagnosed as a baby with Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood (AHC), will be the focus of “Norah’s CREWsaders 2025 Charity Event,” a family-friendly fundraiser at West Washington School Corporation.

The event begins at 9 a.m. at 8028 W Batt Rd. and promises a full day of fun, food, and entertainment for all ages — all while raising critical funds for Norah’s Indiana Able Medical Fund and Cure AHC. Local minister Cash Hunsley will serve as the emcee guiding the day’s activities, which are geared toward community bonding and helping a family in need.

Norah’s diagnosis with AHC — a rare neurological condition that can cause episodes of paralysis, muscle stiffness, and developmental delays — has placed tremendous physical and emotional strain on her and her family. Saturday’s event is not only a fundraiser, but a celebration of her strength and the unwavering support of her community.

Activity Schedule

The festivities begin at 9 a.m. with a 5K walk/run, bounce house, bake sale, and a variety of kids' activities including face painting, a temporary tattoo station, corn hole, and sand art. The vendors market also opens at this time, showcasing goods from local artisans and small businesses.

From 9 to 11 a.m., families can enjoy live music by David + Megan, pony rides, mini cow pictures, and cotton candy.

Food and refreshments begin serving at 10 a.m., with offerings from local favorites such as QBC Grill (Ron and Lola Smith), Brother B’s Homemade Ice Cream, The Icy Spoon, and Hayes Lemonade. These treats will be available throughout the day.

At 10 a.m., author Melissa Nicholson will host a book signing for I Am One in a Million, a children’s book inspired by Norah’s journey. The signing will run until noon.

The event's highlight will be a live auction beginning at 11 a.m. in the Fortner Gym, where items will be auctioned off by Robinson Auction Services. The gym opens at 10 a.m. for viewing.

Norah’s CREWsaders is more than just a charity event — it’s a reminder of the strength of small-town communities and the profound impact they can have. All proceeds from the day will go directly toward Norah’s ongoing medical expenses and research for AHC.

As Norah's family continues to face an uphill battle with courage and resilience, this Saturday offers a chance for the community to show that they are not alone. We hope to see you there!
