"Built to Move" With Dr. Voyles: Pulling your Weight

What does pulling a combine 10 feet as fast as possible have to do with working in a chiropractic office?
More than you might think.
Recently, our team came together for the first ever combine pull at Cornucopia, where the goal was simple: get the combine across the finish line faster than every other team. It took strength, effort, coordination, and—most importantly—every person pulling their own weight.
And we won.
But the victory wasn't because one person was the strongest. It was because everyone did their part.
When you're standing in front of a combine that weighs far more than any one person could move, it quickly becomes obvious that individual effort isn't enough. One person can't do it alone.
The same is true in a chiropractic office.
A great patient experience doesn't happen because of just the chiropractor. It takes the entire team—from the front desk and scheduling to patient education, adjusting, therapy, billing, and everything in between.
Every role has a purpose.
When one person isn't pulling their weight, everyone feels it. When everyone contributes, communicates, and gives their best effort, the entire team moves forward. During the combine pull, we didn’t have time to worry about what everyone else on the team was doing. You grab your part of the rope, get positioned, listen for the signal, and pull.
In the office, our "rope" may look different.
It might mean answering the phone with a positive attitude when the day is hectic. It might mean helping a teammate who is running behind. It could mean making sure a patient feels welcomed, keeping the schedule moving, communicating clearly, or taking care of a task before someone has to ask.
Those small efforts add up. Just like every person pulling on the rope contributes to moving thousands of pounds, every team member's effort contributes to moving our office and our patients forward.
The best part of the combine pull wasn't just crossing the finish line first. It was seeing what happened when everyone committed to the same goal.
Someone started the pull.
Someone kept the rhythm.
Someone encouraged the team.
Everyone kept pulling.
That's what teamwork looks like.
In a chiropractic office, our finish line isn't a trophy. It's the difference we make in patients' lives and the experience we create for every person who walks through the doors.
When we communicate, support one another, take ownership, and give our best effort, we become stronger as a team. You don't have to do everything. But you do have to do your part.
So, whether we're pulling a combine down a track, taking care of your children at home, or at work like we are with our patients, the lesson is the same:
Grab the rope.
Pull your weight.
Help your teammate.
Keep moving forward.
Because when everyone pulls together, there's no telling how far we can go.
