Christmas week is in full swing across Washington County, and the Salem square is shining as a centerpiece of the season. Wrapped in lights and holiday decorations, the square has taken on a festive glow as the community counts down the final days to Christmas.
Two decorations in particular stand out this year: a pair of Christmas trees placed on the western corners of the square. The trees were purchased by Tony Cardwell Jr., owner of Merica Flea Market and Washington County’s 3rd District Commissioner. They were installed by Ken Temple of Temple & Temple Excavating & Paving, and decorated by the staff of Knapp, Miller, & Brown Insurance Services. Commissioner Cardwell says the project was a goodwill collaboration aimed at adding holiday cheer and beautifying the downtown square.
Community tradition continued Saturday night, the 20th, with the annual Christmas parade along South Main Street. The parade began at Titan Tint & Graphics at dusk and concluded on the square, featuring a marching band and culminating with the appearance of the Grand Marshal, Santa Claus himself!
After the parade's conclusion on Saturday night, the Washington County Theatre presented two performances of "It's a Wonderful Life: Radio Play", complete with live foley sound effects and special in-show commercials for local business sponsors of the theatre. The theatre has also announced that its "Christmas Trail" walk down the walking trail behind Salem Middle School has been rescheduled for Monday evening at 6:30.

This week’s coverage also includes several photos submitted by readers of The Washington County Times, showcasing Christmas decorations from homes and businesses throughout the county. While we were unable to publish every photo submitted, we are pleased to feature contributions from Tracy Owsley, Mary Anne Knapp, Libby Hollen, Lori Davis, Luke Scott, Courtney Seeley, Lewis Mossey, Rita Linck, and Isaac Mitchell. Their submissions offer a glimpse into the many ways residents are celebrating the season and bringing Christmas spirit to their own corners of Washington County.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from The Washington County Times!
