Families looking for free fun, food, and fireworks won’t have to go far this weekend. On Saturday, June 28, the Gibson Township Fire Department is hosting a full day of community celebration at the United Producers Stockyards, just northeast of Scottsburg.
The festivities begin at noon with “Touch a Truck,” a hands-on event where kids and adults alike can explore a wide array of emergency and first responder vehicles from across the region. Attendees will be able to get up close with fire trucks, ambulances, wreckers, patrol cars, tankers, air boats, and more. A fire boat and helicopter will also be on display.
Departments represented will include the Indiana State Police, US Army Reserve and National Guard, Air Methods Corydon, Scott County EMS and Sheriff’s Department, and fire departments from Scottsburg, Clarksville, Little York, and Brownstown, among others.
"Touch a Truck" runs from noon to 5 p.m., but that’s just the start.

At 5 p.m., the 7th Annual Gibson Township Fireworks Show begins, transforming the area into a patriotic celebration with food, live music, and fireworks. The Gibson Fire Department will be serving fish, burgers, fries, and drinks from 5 to 9 p.m., and the Night Owl Country Band will take the stage from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Bounce houses, ice cream, and activities for kids will also be available.
The event is free and open to the public, but attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs or blankets for seating. No alcohol is allowed, as this is a family-focused celebration.
Fireworks will cap off the night, launching after dark.
Location: 10050 E Bush Road in Scottsburg.
