A GoFundMe campaign has been established to support the family of 14-year-old Jameson Crawford, whose death Sunday evening in Salem remains under investigation.
The fundraiser was created to assist with funeral expenses and the cost of a headstone as the family navigates the sudden loss. Organizers of the campaign describe the incident as an accidental shooting and are asking the community for support during an extraordinarily difficult time.
In the campaign description, organizers wrote:
“As most know, heaven has gained a new angel, Jameson Crawford. He was only 14 years old when his life ended tragically due to an accidental shooting.
“Jameson was the light in our lives. He truly lived to make everyone around him smile. His life was taken way too soon and now we are asking for your help to give him the proper funeral that he deserves.
“All donations will go towards his funeral ceremony and headstone. If you can help anyway big or small we would appreciate it. Please continue to keep our family in your prayers as we navigate through this tragedy.”
The campaign reflects a broader outpouring of grief and support from the Salem community, where friends, classmates, and neighbors have begun sharing memories and condolences in the days following Crawford’s death.
As previously reported, investigators with the Indiana State Police are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident, which occurred around 7:10 p.m. Sunday at a residence on East Oak Drive. The Salem Police Department initially responded to the scene and located Crawford, before requesting assistance from state police detectives and crime scene investigators.
During the preliminary investigation, a second 14-year-old male was taken into custody at the scene. Authorities have stated that the juvenile has been charged with reckless homicide, a Level 5 felony, in connection with the death. He was transported to the Allen County Juvenile Center.
Officials have not publicly confirmed further specifics regarding how the shooting occurred or the details leading up to it, and the case remains active. Authorities have indicated that additional information will be released as the investigation progresses.
Meanwhile, members of the community are preparing to gather in Crawford’s memory. A candlelight vigil and balloon release is scheduled for Tuesday, April 21 at 8:30 p.m. at 108 N. Fair Street in Salem, next to the fairgrounds. Organizers are asking those who attend to bring their own lanterns and balloons.
Anyone wishing to contribute to the fundraiser can do so through the GoFundMe page established for the family.
