John C. Roberts, age 79 of Salem, Indiana passed away Thursday, July 30, 2026, in Christ Hospital of Cincinnati, OH.

Born September 15, 1946, in Salem, Indiana, he was the son of James W. Roberts and Edith (Newlon) Roberts.

He had been a life resident of Washington County, graduated from Salem in 1964 before going to Indiana University to study education.

He then went on to become a teacher at Eastern Pekin High School for 11 years. John was also a Sales Manager at the Pekin Banner Publications for over 30 years. He was a lifetime member of the Salem United Methodist Church, where he played music for services.

John was active in his community where he served on the board of directors for the Washington County Community Foundation. He taught Yoga class at the YMCA, was a member of the Senior Citizens, Pekin Lions Club, Pekin Betterment Committee, the River Hills Economic Development and was a life member of the Hymn Society of America and played piano for the Madrigals for many years. He loved sports and especially baseball. He and his friend, Donnie Whitlow, have been to 17 different ballparks together.

Survivors include:

Sister: Maxine Roberts of Rushville, Indiana;

Sister-in-Law Roseann Roberts of Salem, Indiana.

Nieces: Leeann Terrones, of Chicago, Cindy (Greg) Harcourt of Indianapolis and Teena Wesley of Louisville

Nephews: John (Amanda) Seelye, Gilbert, Arizona, Mark (Michelle) Roberts all of Salem and his longtime friend, Donnie (Debbie) Whitlow and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Linda Ann Roberts and a brother Jimmie Lee Roberts.

Funeral Service: 2 pm Saturday 8/8/2026 at Salem United Methodist Church.

Visitation: 1 pm until the time of the service on Saturday at the Church.

John will be laid to rest at a later date in Martinsburg Cemetery.
