It was a week to remember for West Washington High School senior Silas Batt.
During a school match on Thursday, May 22, the 18-year-old pulled off a feat most golfers only dream of—hitting a hole-in-one at the Western Hills Country Club. The very next day, he walked across the stage to receive his high school diploma.
"Honestly, one of the greatest moments of my life," Silas said. "Being able to do something that even the people I look up to haven't done really makes me feel good, and those are the types of shots that keep me coming back."
For context, the odds of an average non-professional golfer making a hole-in-one are about 12,500 to 1. The shot came on Hole 4, a par-three measuring roughly 160 yards.
Silas, who is in just his third year of playing golf, has developed a strong passion for the game—one that clearly shows in both his dedication and performance.
"I will 100% keep playing golf in the future," he said. "Although it is not likely I will play for a college."
As for life after graduation, Silas is looking ahead to a different kind of field - literally.
"My plan now is to join a livestock operation and help better their program," he said. "I've grown up in the livestock industry and have been involved in 4-H and FFA through the years.
"If I'm not on the course, I am likely to be in the barn working with animals," he concluded. "The livestock industry is something I'm very, very passionate about, so I hope to take that passion and help create more opportunities for myself and everyone around me."
