On Tuesday, October 14, Mayor Justin Green invited the Salem Lady Lions softball team to the city council meeting held at City Hall to congratulate them on their winning season this year. The Lady Lions had a great 18-9 season, and they made it to the second game of Semi-State.

“We have invited some guests here tonight. Some local royalty, if you will,” began Mayor Justin Green. “We have the Lady Lions softball team and a handful of coaches and assistants, and they had a winning season! This is a little bit dated, but better late than never. So tell us, what was our record this year?”
“18-9,” replied the team. “And we got to the second game of Semi-State.”
“So, all the hard work obviously paid off,” said Green. “I know these coaches, and they do a heck of a job, but most of the credit goes to you ladies. So, good job. ‘Onward and upward’ as they say, right? Well, I’m so appreciative of you coming in… You guys certainly have made great strides and did a wonderful job of representing Salem this year.”
The Lady Lions have a solid group of coaches, many of which are former Salem softball players themselves: Lexi Garloch, Alaina Goode, Tim Wilson, and Kenedie Depoy.

“They’re a great group of girls,” said Coach Alaina Goode. “I would like to add that the team that we lost to was the team that ended up winning State.”
“Yeah, sometimes it goes that way,” said Green.
“This is the fifth time,” said Goode.
“Fifth time… well, who’s counting?” laughed Green.
“These girls are in the record books,” said Rodney Brough. “They’re the first Regional Champions, and the first team to win a Semi-State game in the history of Salem.”
“Hey, that was fun,” said Mayor Green as the Lady Lions left after taking a group photo. “I always enjoy having groups here that represent our city, and they did very well.”
The IHSAA State Tournament came to an end for the Lady Lions after beating Brownstown Central (9-8) and Triton Central (11-7) when they lost to Tecumseh (16-0) on June 7. Be sure to congratulate your Lady Lions for their hard work and determination this season!
