Motorcycle Wreck on Hackberry St

“I was sitting over there, and I heard a scrape going down the road,” said the 911 caller. “I thought a piece of metal had fallen off a truck, but when I came running out I saw him [the driver] on the ground. He had already skidded down the road and was laying right there when I came out. There was a lady I talked to who was following him in a car, and she said he was going way too fast. I didn’t actually see it happen, though”

According to Police Chief Eric Mills, the motorcycle driver skidded approximately 235 feet after wrecking.

“The motorcycle was traveling west on Hackberry Street near Anson Street,” said Chief Mills. “There were no witnesses to the crash. I believe he was knocked unconscious during the crash, but he was conscious and confused when we were speaking to him. So, they’re flying him out to Louisville to treat him for injuries to the head and abrasions to pretty much his entire body.

“I was able to speak to him for a minute,” continued Mills. “He said a black vehicle turned in front of him causing the crash… Basically, where we believe the bike actually laid down was about 235 feet [from the scene].”

Mills concluded by stating that he believes speed was a factor in this accident.

Specific injuries are unknown at this time, but they are believed to be non-life-threatening.

Thanks to the fast response of the Salem Police Department, Salem Fire Department, and Washington County EMS, the scene was cleared quickly and traffic returned to normal on Hackberry Street.
