Rebecca Hardesty’s eighth grade math students are finishing their Transformations on a Graph Unit. Transformations include rotations, translations, dilations and reflections.
The students are creating a mandala suncatcher to represent reflections on a graph. It is a “symmetrical flip.”
“We received the Giving Tree Grant to be able to do this project,” said Hardesty. “Every eighth grade student got to paint a suncatcher that will be displayed on the windows at the middle school.”
Students will take them home at the end of the school year.

According to the Washington County Community Foundation’s website, while similar to the Mahuron Education Grants, “the Giving Tree grants are funded completely by the employees of the Salem Community School System. Through a payroll deduction program, the staff at SCS is building an endowed fund over time, and also issuing real time grants to promote innovation and creativity in the classroom.”

Salem Community Schools is thankful for the opportunity for employees to donate, as well as apply for these funds to help educate the students at the school. It’s a great partnership and one that only benefits the children.
