A two-school bus crash involving a Jeep Cherokee Thursday morning in Campbellsburg resulted in no serious injuries, according to Washington County Sheriff Brent Miller.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched at 7:36 a.m. April 30 to the intersection of State Road 60 West and Sycamore Street for a motor vehicle crash involving a Salem Community Schools bus, a West Washington School Corporation bus and a white Jeep Cherokee.
According to the sheriff’s department, Salem School Bus No. 3 had stopped at the stop sign on Sycamore Street and was preparing to turn east onto State Road 60. At the same time, West Washington School Bus No. 4 was traveling westbound on State Road 60 and entered the turn lane to turn north onto Sycamore Street.
Investigators said the driver of the Jeep Cherokee, identified as 22-year-old Michaela Callaway of Salem, remained in the westbound lane and passed the West Washington bus as it was in the turn lane.
As Salem School Bus No. 3 began pulling out from Sycamore Street to head eastbound on State Road 60, the driver reportedly did not see the Jeep Cherokee approaching behind the West Washington bus.
The Jeep then struck the Salem school bus near the rear wheels.
All students on both buses were checked at the scene by Washington County EMS, and no injuries among the school bus occupants were reported.
Callaway was treated for minor abrasions to her arm caused by airbag deployment and later transported by personal vehicle to Saint Vincent Hospital.
