Washington County is gearing up for a heartwarming holiday tradition as Shop With a Cop returns on Saturday, December 13. Starting at 8:00 a.m., approximately 60 children will get the chance to shop for Christmas presents at Walmart alongside local law enforcement officers.
After their shopping spree, the young participants will parade in a convoy around the Salem Bypass before heading to Bradie Shrum Elementary School. There, volunteers from a local church will serve a breakfast catered by McDonald’s.

Sheriff’s Detective and Fraternal Order of Police President Brad Naugle, who oversees the event, emphasized the program’s importance. “The Shop With a Cop program has been going on... I think this is the 39th year. I think it’s very important to the community. Everybody needs a little help at times, and we’re lucky to live in Washington County where people are available to make donations to make it possible for people who need help,” Naugle said.
Donations to support the program can be made at either the Salem Police Department or the Sheriff’s Department leading up to the 13th. Residents can also call the departments to arrange for an officer to meet them for donation pick-up and a photo opportunity.
The holiday spirit continues on Sunday, December 14, when the Sheriff’s Department will host a Cram the Cruiser event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Police cruisers will be parked at JayC and Walmart, accepting donations for the Washington County Food Bank. All items collected will go directly to the food bank to help local families in need.
