West Washington School Corporation issued a warning Tuesday morning after some students received a phishing email from an individual posing as a West Washington student.
The message, sent by someone identifying as "The LURKER" and asking recipients to take a linked “test,” did not come from the school’s domain. Teachers did not receive the message.

“This is a phishing scam email,” the district wrote in a Facebook post. “Please delete and do not click on the link.”
Phishing emails are designed to trick recipients into clicking links or giving away personal information. To reduce risk, families are encouraged to:
Verify the sender’s email address carefully before trusting a message.
Avoid clicking on links unless you are certain they are legitimate.
Be cautious of emails with unusual or alarming language.
Report suspicious emails to a teacher, administrator, or trusted adult.
Parents are encouraged to remind students to delete suspicious emails immediately and report them if possible.
