William “Bill” Stackhouse, 71, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.

Born in New Albany, Indiana, Bill was the son of the late Elizabeth “Betty” and Hershel Stackhouse Jr. He was a man who found great joy in the simple things in life and had a deep appreciation for the beauty of the world around him.

Bill was an avid outdoorsman who loved camping, bird watching, and hiking. He enjoyed spending time in nature, taking in the sights and sounds of the outdoors, and creating memories along the way. He was also a voracious reader, with a particular fondness for the novels of Stephen King. His curiosity, love of stories, and appreciation for the natural world were a meaningful part of who he was.

Above all, Bill cherished his family. He will be deeply missed by his sons, Matthew Stackhouse (Amanda) and Andrew Stackhouse (Megan); his grandchildren, Olivia, Jonathan, Will, and Lillian; and his brother, George Stackhouse (Chrissy). He is also lovingly remembered by many extended family members and friends whose lives he touched throughout the years.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth “Betty” and Hershel Stackhouse Jr.; and his siblings, Hershel Stackhouse III and Mary “Missy” Legalbo.

The family has honored Bill’s wish for cremation. A private memorial visitation will be held from 2-6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at Love Funeral Home, 14345 Green Street NE, Palmyra, Indiana. Words of Remembrance and an opportunity for family and friends to share memories and remarks will be held at the conclusion of visitation at the funeral home.
