The D. Jack Mahuron Education Fund was established at the Washington County Community Foundation to encourage educators and staff to teach in innovative ways. This year, the fund, as well as the Elliott Family Fund, has awarded several teachers in the county school corporations over $8,200.00.

This weekend will mark the 57th annual Fort Vallonia Days in Vallonia with two days of crafts, food, music, contests, and an excellent look at the popular fort that resides in the community. The festival runs from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Saturday, October 17, and 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Sunday, October 18, at the fort grounds in Vallonia, on S SR-135.

This past weekend, the Hardinsburg General Store hosted their third annual fall festival! With more than 40 different vendors in attendance, there was something for everyone. We had the pleasure of speaking with Janice Davis, store employee and event organizer, about the festival and how it has grown over these past few years. Washington County residents looking for an exciting craft show experience need look no further than October 10. The inaugural Salem Fall Craft Market is set for 9:00 am to 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 10, at Southern Hills Church, 1645 S SR-135. Admission is free; parking is free. The entire market is indoors and billed as family-friendly.

This year’s Livonia Volunteer Fire Rescue Annual Fish Fry is set for Saturday, October 3, beginning at 5:00 pm at 383 E Main St / Highway 56 in Campbellsburg (the former Dutch Barn in Livonia). Alongside the meal, the department will host an LVFD Cruise-in, with classic, muscle and antique vehicles welcome. No registration is required.

Community members and car enthusiasts will have an opportunity to enjoy an afternoon of food, vehicles and fellowship while supporting the fight against cancer during the “Cruise In for Fish” fundraiser Saturday, September 26, at New Hope United Methodist Church (4957 W State Rd 60, Salem).

Friday Night on the Square will return to downtown Salem on Friday, Oct. 2, from 6 to 10 p.m., bringing more than 100 vendors, food vendors and organizations to the square for what is shaping up to be one of the largest gatherings in the event's history.

Hunter’s Ridge Winery will host the 2nd annual Pawpaw Festival on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20 from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm both days. Local vendors with handmade goods will set up in the field behind the building, and a food truck will be on site.
