Campbell Maness, age 83, of Salem, passed away Friday, August 8, 2025 at his residence. Born May 18, 1942 in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, he was the son of Creed Maness and Olga Mae (Coomer) Maness. On May 3, 1963, he married Virginia Sue (McClure) Maness who survives.

Mary Louise Durbin, age 61, of Salem, passed away Saturday, August 9 at Baptist Health Floyd. Mary was born November 29, 1963, in New Albany, the daughter of Murphy and Sharon Schwinger Booker. She was a retired employee of the Washington County Assessor's Office. She was a member of Mt. Tabor Christian Church.

"My aunt, Captain Mary T. Klinker, was a U.S. Air Force flight nurse and the only member of the Air Force Nurse Corps killed during the Vietnam War. A native of Lafayette, Indiana, she joined the Air Force in 1970 after graduating from Central Catholic High School and training at St. Elizabeth Hospital’s School of Nursing."

A PRESS RELEASE FROM INDIANA STATE POLICE - SELLERSBURG: A Washington County man was arrested Thursday after an Indiana State Police (ISP) investigation into alleged child battery.

Armadillos, once associated exclusively with South America, Central America, and the southern United States, are now rapidly becoming part of Indiana’s wildlife. Recent reports suggest they may already be breeding in Washington County.

Recently, members of our community along with fellow Hoosiers across the State of Indiana joined together in an event called, “Motorcade for Medicaid” with the hope of raising awareness of rural hospitals that are at risk of closing down citing various budget cuts from the state and federal government.

The first annual “Washington County Resource Day” will be held on Saturday, August 23rd, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Randy Johnson Fieldhouse at Salem High School. The event is free to attend and open to the public. Attendees can expect a wide variety of booths, giveaways, and activities, including door prizes, a bounce house, and a mobile food pantry.
