Susan Gertrude Penix, age 56 of Salem, passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at Baptist Health Floyd Hospital. Mrs. Penix was born February 24, 1969 in Mount Vernon, Kentucky, the daughter of Edward Pittman and Kimberly O’Neal.

On June 10, Washington County emergency responders received a call at 12:43pm regarding a wreck involving a blue Honda Civic and a red Volvo semi on SR-56 East near N Mount Rd. This happens to be the second semi-related wreck on 56 East in the span of a week.

The search for a man wanted out of Jackson County is over. Multiple law enforcement agencies were working together to locate Jeremiah Bragg, 36, of Seymour, Indiana, who was wanted out of Jackson County, Indiana.

Theodore Ralph “Ted” Linton, 80, of English, Indiana passed away peacefully Friday May 30, 2025, in Greenwood, Indiana, surrounded by several members of his family.

Andrea "Angie" Johnson, age 72, of Campbellsburg passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at Baptist Health Floyd Hospital. Born November 16, 1952 in Salem, she was the daughter of the late David Harris and Margie (Wilson) Mesarosh.

Sally and Stanley Maudlin, age 88 and 89 of Campbellsburg, passed away in their home. Sally Maudlin passed away on June 10, 2025, holding hands with her husband Stanley, who followed 16 hours later, on June 11, 2025.

Mrs. Kathy "Jan" Shelton, age 71, of Borden, passed away Wednesday, June 11 at Baptist Health Floyd, surrounded by her family. Jan was born September 29, 1953 in Salem, the daughter of Elmer and Shirley Ann Gould Hamilton. She was a retired employee of Net Shape in Campbellsburg and a member of Mt. Carmel Christian Church.

Gertrude Stephenson, age 98 ¾ years old, died on June 8, 2025 in Salem, Indiana. She was born September 18, 1926, north of Lake Cicott in Cass County, Indiana, to Leroy & Sarah Ann Buchanan Young. Gertrude graduated from Royal Center High School and married Melvin Stephenson in 1944. They were charter members of the Monroe Church of Christ.

On May 6, a decision was made by the Washington County Board of Commissioners to award a paving bid to Temple & Temple, despite the existence of a nearly $80,000 lower bid from C&R Construction in Harrison County. On June 10, that decision was rescinded due to a letter from the Indiana Department of Transportation.

Finally! The Eastern Girls' Tennis Team can use that word as they were able to claim their first ever tennis sectional title in school history. “It is very special and surreal to say that this team won the very first sectional in Eastern Tennis,” said Eastern Coach Ame Hein.
