Community Theatre Performs "Southern Hospitality" This Weekend
The Washington County Theatre will take audiences back to the fictional town of Fayro, Texas, this weekend with its production of Southern Hospitality, a fast-paced Southern comedy by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, and The Golden Girls writer/producer Jamie Wooten. Performances will be held at Gary W. Hartsook Hall, located behind the Salem Church of the Nazarene at 405 North Shelby Street.

"Butch" Darwin Leroy Vergason Jr.
"Butch" Darwin Leroy Vergason Jr., age 76, passed on May 28, 2025. Butch was born in Coudersport, Pennsylvania, on March 8, 1949, to Darwin Leroy Vergason Sr. and Anna Louise Gregory Robertson. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Upon his return, he followed his calling and attended Clear Creek Baptist Bible College in Pineville, Kentucky and was an ordained minister.

Large Barn Fire on Highland Rd
At 9:03 pm on May 21, the Salem Fire Department received a call in regard to a “large barn fire” at 3821 N Highland Rd.
Upon arrival, a barn could be seen with flames coming out of every opening and window. Aside from speculation, the cause of the fire is still unknown.
