Michael Earl Cruse, age 68, of Salem, passed away Tuesday, October 28 at his home. Mr. Cruse was born August 13, 1957, in Floyd County, Indiana, the son of Earl Cruse and Margaret Lynch Rose.

The D. Jack Mahuron Education Fund was established at the Washington County Community Foundation to encourage educators and staff to teach in innovative ways. This year, the fund has awarded several teachers in the county school corporations approximately $9,000.00.

Grants totaling over $120,000.00 were awarded to organizations serving Washington County by the donors of the Washington County Community Foundation for the Fall 2025 grant cycle. Grants are primarily awarded from the Foundation’s Touch Tomorrow Funds.

Willamina Jerilynn Davida Miller, went to be with Jesus on Sunday, October 26, 2025. Willamina was born on September 8, 2025 in Louisville, Kentucky, the daughter of Jerry A. Miller and Mary G. Miller.

Virginia Sue Maness, age 81, of Salem, passed away on Monday, October 27, 2025 at her residence. Born August 3, 1944 in Mount Vernon, Kentucky. She was the daughter of Henry Lee McClure and Bessie Mae (Hasty) McClure. On May 3, 1963 she married Campbell Ray Maness, who has preceded her in death.

A new community tradition may soon be taking shape in Salem. Titan Tint & Graphics will host its first “Saturday Night at Titan’s” on November 1 at 8 p.m., offering a free, drive-in style movie night featuring family Halloween classics Hocus Pocus  and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Barbara June (Cozart) Bolin, age 58 of Salem, Indiana passed away Monday, October 20, 2025, in her residence. Born September 20, 1967 in Peoria, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Clifford Cozart and Phyllis (Crawford) Cozart.

Debbie Lyn Schreiber, age 65, of Salem, Indiana, passed away peacefully on the morning of October 24, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Debbie was known by everyone and a stranger to none. Her friendliness, humor, and honesty made her unforgettable to all who crossed her path.

On October 24, Washington County emergency responders received a dispatch call at 3:40 pm regarding a two-vehicle accident with minor injuries at the intersection of E Daisy Line Rd and Martinsburg Rd.

On October 20, Salem emergency responders were dispatched to a fatal house fire at 101 Raneer Drive located in the Fairview mobile home lot off of Old State Road 60. The dispatch call stated that an explosion seemed to be the cause of the fire.

Commissioners met on October 21 to discuss a new Subdivision Control Ordinance. Max Greene and Lucy Brenton took the stand to raise concerns over it.
