Members of our community are once again coming together in support of Leerah Gilbert, the six-year-old girl who has been battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia since last fall. The next Lyles Fish Fry, set for Saturday, August 8 from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm at Lyles Park (5581 E Old 56, Salem), has been dedicated as a fundraiser for Leerah and her family. Louise was born November 15, 1940 in Salem, Indiana, the daughter of Ford Deaton and Catherine Chastain Deaton. She was a member of the Mount Tabor Christian Church. Louise was the previous owner of H&R Block Tax Service in Salem. She enjoyed doing bible studies and teaching youth at church and also spending time with her family and friends

The Indiana Department of Transportation has announced alternating lane closures for State Road 135 in Washington and Jackson Counties. Beginning on or around Monday, August 3, crews will begin alternating lane closures on State Road 135 near the county line between Salem and Brownstown.
