The Commissioners Meeting on the morning of Tuesday, September 2 provided more updates to the issue of the elimination of the fairgrounds groundskeeper position held by Randy Lee. If you recall from the previous meeting, it was certainly a topic of passionate discussion. Although the board was missing one key member – Commissioner Todd Ewen – business was still conducted.

On Friday, August 29, Washington County emergency responders received a dispatch call at 4:49 pm in regard to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of North Shelby Street and Bristol Street. The incident involved a Ford Fiesta and a Buick Encore.

On Thursday, August 28, 2025, at approximately 8:13 pm, members of emergency services were dispatched to North State Road 39 near the intersection of State Road 256 for a personal injury accident.

On August 27, Washington County emergency responders received a call at 7:31 pm in regard to a truck that had rolled over into a ditch near the area of 8926 US-150 in Hardinsburg. Upon the arrival of the Washington County Times, a red Chevrolet 2500 HD pickup truck could be seen sitting off the south side of the road with debris scattered alongside it.

According to police, the westbound driver reported that the setting sun was directly impairing his vision, preventing him from clearly seeing the roadway and oncoming traffic.

An Indiana State Police detective residing in Washington County has been promoted to First Sergeant in the Sellersburg District and will serve as Investigative Commander. Indiana State Police – Sellersburg shared the following in a press release this morning...

The Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, August 19 turned out to be quite an eventful one. Rumors and comments on Facebook leading up to the meeting ruffled many feathers throughout our community, and it ensured a very unusually populated courtroom with many people eagerly anticipating what would occur. For instance, the elimination of the groundskeeper position at the fairgrounds, currently held by Randy Lee, was certainly a hot topic of the morning.

For months, a small building tucked away off Cheshire Lane in Hardinsburg has been the subject of a county-wide controversy. During the August 19 town board meeting, S. Coy Travis, the Hardinsburg town attorney, aimed to put that controversy to rest.

In an open letter to Mayor Green on August 14, Councilman Randy Lee referenced a "comprehensive final report" compiled by the Salem Water Task Force last year, and accused the Mayor of "[not taking] action to address any of [the] issues" brought up in the report. We have obtained a copy of said report.

The Washington County Sheriff's Department is partnering with the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) to prevent impaired driving and save lives. From August 16 through August 30, officers will increase patrols and conduct sobriety checkpoints as part of the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over national enforcement campaign, led by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

On Thursday, August 14, Franklin Township Volunteer Firefighters received a call at 11:47 am in regard to a vehicle fire at 10172 SR-160. Dispatch informed emergency responders that a vehicle had caught on fire, and that it had spread to another vehicle nearby and had begun to spread to a house just a few feet away.

On Thursday, August 14, Salem City Councilman Randy Lee announced on Facebook that he had hand-delivered a letter to the office of Mayor Justin Green regarding the ongoing concerns about the water supplied by Salem Water Works. The letter is included in its entirety below.
