Jetta A. Burton, age 89 of Salem, Indiana passed away Monday, June 2, 2025 at 2:35 am, in Meadow View Health & Rehabilitation Salem, Indiana. Born July 13, 1935 in New Albany, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Albert Arvel Martin and Margaret (Adams) Martin.

Mr. Jimmy G. Mahuron, age 82, of Salem, passed away Saturday, May 31. Mr. Mahuron was born December 2, 1942, in Salem, the son of Warren and Miriam Allison Mahruon. He was a retired superintendent for the City of Salem Water Department. He was a member of Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, Salem Branch. Jimmy was an Army veteran. He was an avid amateur radio operator and loved bees and bee keeping.

Christina Jewell Bowsman, age 75 of Salem, Indiana passed away Thursday, May 29, 2025 at 6:09 am, in Baptist Health Floyd New Albany. Born January 19, 1950 in Bedford, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late James Ira Goen and Elizabeth Triphinia (Blevins) Goen.

On Saturday, May 24, Eastern High School celebrated this year's graduates with the 2025 graduation ceremony! There were smiles as far as the eye could see, and an enormous amount of support for the graduates from family and friends.

"Butch" Darwin Leroy Vergason Jr., age 76, passed on May 28, 2025. Butch was born in Coudersport, Pennsylvania, on March 8, 1949, to Darwin Leroy Vergason Sr. and Anna Louise Gregory Robertson. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Upon his return, he followed his calling and attended Clear Creek Baptist Bible College in Pineville, Kentucky and was an ordained minister.

Submitted by Nina Webb: Lacy is our adopted daughter along with her brother, when they were 4 & 6. Life hasn’t been real easy for Lacy. She has had to overcome teasing from classmates and hurtful remarks from what she thought were mentors. Instead of reacting, she gave her troubles to God, put a smile on her face and kept trudging onward.

At 9:03 pm on May 21, the Salem Fire Department received a call in regard to a “large barn fire” at 3821 N Highland Rd. Upon arrival, a barn could be seen with flames coming out of every opening and window. Aside from speculation, the cause of the fire is still unknown.

Sandy K. Knapp, age 76, of Salem, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2025 at Norton Brownsboro Hospital. Mrs. Knapp was born February 22, 1949, in Hamburg, Indiana. The daughter of Tom and Ann Hardy Sanford. Sandy was a member of Syria Christian Church. She was the 1st Deputy of the Treasurers Office and a West Washington class of 1967 graduate.

Anna Belle Martin Trueblood, age 105, of Salem, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2025 at Salem Crossing. Mrs. Trueblood was born March 17, 1920 to Logan J. and Mattie Luse Martin at the Martin home, south of Salem, Indiana.
