Mrs. Nancy Louise Martin, age 84, of Pekin, passed away Sunday, November 16, at her home. Mrs. Martin was born July 30, 1941, in Fredericksburg, Indiana the daughter of Aaron and LuElla Totten Deaton. She was a retired dental assistant for Dr. Martin Kennedy, DDS. She was a member of Big Spring Church of Christ.

Mary Patricia Hacker, age 73 of Pekin, Indiana passed away Friday, November 7, 2025, in Norton Audubon Hospital Louisville. Born September 22, 1952 in Salem, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Jack Cushing Hudkins Sr. and Mary Patricia (Miller) Hudkins.

This morning’s Commissioners Meeting, November 18, was more of a return to normalcy compared to the previous meeting held on November 4. The meeting began with the approval of the agenda, public comments, and the approval of the meeting minutes from November 4.

Irene R. Ford, age 85, of Palmyra, passed away Sunday, November 16 at Salem Crossing. Irene was born July 14, 1940, in Grundy, Virginia, the daughter of Clarence and Edith Ratliff Ramey. She was a homemaker. Her passion in life was traveling the world.

JAG (Jobs for America’s Graduates) has been very influential for students at Salem High School. Tara Kritzer has been working for JAG at SHS since the school introduced it in 2024. Due to budget cuts by the Indiana State Legislature this year, the JAG program will be defunded almost completely. Roughly 85% of JAG funding has been cut, and because of this, JAG will not be able to continue after the first semester at SHS.

Vera Lou Kirtley Lockard, age 71, of Salem, passed away Saturday, November 15 at St. Vincent Hospital in Salem. Vera was born November 24, 1953 in Salem the daughter of George Kirtley and Wilma Goss Kirtley. She was a longtime employee of Banner Publications. She was a member of Turning Point Church in Scottsburg.

Local author Wayne D. Kramer has introduced a brand-new children’s book series featuring a lovable pangolin whose adventures teach lessons about friendship, empathy, and protecting wildlife.

Mrs. Lois M. Miller, age 92, of Fredericksburg, passed away Thursday, November 13 at Baptist Health Floyd. Mrs. Miller was born February 8, 1933, in Louisville, Kentucky the daughter of Louis William Vassie and Elsie Katherine Dicken Vassie Cummings.

Janet Elaine Deich, age 76 of Salem, Indiana passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2025. Born August 17, 1949, in Scottsburg, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late James V. Brown and Cleatus (Stewart) Brown.

Suzanne was born in Salem, Indiana on January 31st, 1952, to Howard and Clara Ann (Purkhiser) Moore. She went to be with her Lord and Savior and sing in his choir on November 10, 2025.

The November 4 Commissioners Meeting was an eventful one to say the least. Although the meeting began as usual, it was not long before it devolved into heated debates between the commissioners.

For more than a year, Paige Monroe has been doing everything she can to keep her young son, Westin, healthy and smiling through a battle few could imagine.
