The Humane Society of Washington County will host a Soup and Chili Lunch Fundraiser on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the American Legion, located at 105 W. Hugh Veteran Drive in Salem. On October 30, Washington County emergency responders received a dispatch call at 3:58 pm regarding a single-vehicle wreck at the roundabout intersecting Jackson Street and the Salem Bypass. The dispatch call stated that the vehicle flipped off the road and came to a rest on its top.

Michael Earl Cruse, age 68, of Salem, passed away Tuesday, October 28 at his home. Mr. Cruse was born August 13, 1957, in Floyd County, Indiana, the son of Earl Cruse and Margaret Lynch Rose.

The D. Jack Mahuron Education Fund was established at the Washington County Community Foundation to encourage educators and staff to teach in innovative ways. This year, the fund has awarded several teachers in the county school corporations approximately $9,000.00.

Grants totaling over $120,000.00 were awarded to organizations serving Washington County by the donors of the Washington County Community Foundation for the Fall 2025 grant cycle. Grants are primarily awarded from the Foundation’s Touch Tomorrow Funds.

Virginia Sue Maness, age 81, of Salem, passed away on Monday, October 27, 2025 at her residence. Born August 3, 1944 in Mount Vernon, Kentucky. She was the daughter of Henry Lee McClure and Bessie Mae (Hasty) McClure. On May 3, 1963 she married Campbell Ray Maness, who has preceded her in death.
