The STEAM lab at Salem Schools is continuing to improve and grow thanks to a grant from the Indiana Department of Education. This is the fourth STEM grant the school corporation has received from the state. With funds being cut by 50%, the grant this year totalled $24,985.

Once a year, FFA members from across the nation gather in Indianapolis for the National FFA Convention; one of the largest student conventions in the country. It’s a time for members to meet others who share the same passion for agriculture, leadership and personal growth. 

The West Washington Jr./Sr. High School Drama Department is bringing one of Agatha Christie’s most famous mysteries to the stage this weekend with three performances of And Then There Were None.

JAG (Jobs for America’s Graduates) has been very influential for students at Salem High School. Tara Kritzer has been working for JAG at SHS since the school introduced it in 2024. Due to budget cuts by the Indiana State Legislature this year, the JAG program will be defunded almost completely. Roughly 85% of JAG funding has been cut, and because of this, JAG will not be able to continue after the first semester at SHS.

Salem Community Schools invites the community to join us in honoring our nation’s heroes during a Veterans Day Program on Tuesday, November 11, at 9:00 am in the Salem High School Main Gym.

On October 14, Mayor Justin Green invited the Salem Lady Lions softball team to the city council meeting held at City Hall to congratulate them on their winning season this year. The Lady Lions had a great 18-9 season, and they made it to the second game of Semi-State.

West Washington School Corporation issued a warning Tuesday morning after some students received a phishing email from an individual posing as a West Washington student.

Salem Community Schools has announced that every student in grades K–12 will once again receive both breakfast and lunch at no cost for the coming 2025–26 school year. The district shared the news on its official Facebook page on July 24.

A new way to inspire creativity is now open to the public in Salem, thanks to the efforts of middle school art teacher Gwendolyn Dowling and her students. Located on the sidewalk by the drop-off circle at Salem Middle School, near the football field, the freshly installed art library box functions much like the other little free book libraries around the county - except instead of books, it’s filled with art supplies.

Finally! The Eastern Girls' Tennis Team can use that word as they were able to claim their first ever tennis sectional title in school history. “It is very special and surreal to say that this team won the very first sectional in Eastern Tennis,” said Eastern Coach Ame Hein.
