Many of you who have known Ellen and me for a while have noticed that I’ve lost some weight recently. Last Sunday at church someone even stopped me and said they barely recognized me. Those of you who have lost a significant amount of weight can relate—because we see ourselves every day, we don’t notice the changes as quickly.

First Baptist Church will be hosting a free night of Christmas music on December 6 presented by The Washington County Madrigal Singers. Although this year's Christmas concert is a slight change of pace and name, it is continuing the 52 year tradition of the "Washington County Madrigal Dinner" at First Baptist.

The holiday spirit is gearing up in Campbellsburg as the community prepares for a festive evening of Hot Cocoa & Cookies with Santa and Mr. Grinch on December 12 from 6–8 p.m. at the Campbellsburg Community Building. The event is free to attend, with guests encouraged to bring donations for the local food bank—non-perishable items, monetary contributions, or volunteer time.

The December 2 Commissioners Meeting was mostly business as usual aside from a slew of highway project bids that were opened, read, and then accepted for review by the commissioners. The meeting began with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance, and then it moved to the approval of the agenda, meeting minutes from the November 18 meeting, and claims and payroll.

Moments of genuine gratitude often arrive when you least expect them. After saying grace, Ryder and I settled into the living room—leash in hand—because with a Great Dane of his height, everything on the table is fair game. And as much as he would have appreciated the hours of meal prep, I’m pretty sure it wasn’t intended for a massive, starving puppy who believes every meal might be his last.

Indiana State Police detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred in the early morning hours of Thanksgiving, resulting in the death of 26-year-old Juan Antonio Gutierrez of Pekin.

An update regarding the tragic death of Robert Alan Bragman has been released by the Indiana State Police (ISP) on November 25. Following an autopsy, the Coroner's Office determined the cause of death to be cardiac in nature, and that it may have been compounded by hypothermia. No foul play is suspected at this time by ISP.

New Covenant Church in Campbellsburg will welcome the community for a free Thanksgiving meal on Sunday, Nov. 30. The day begins with a short Bible study at 9:30 a.m., followed by coffee and cookies. The morning service will take place at 10:45 a.m., with the Thanksgiving meal served at noon.

As many of you know, kids don’t come with manuals—and most days, we parents are learning on the fly. Every day brings a new adventure; kind of like opening a questionable diaper… you never really know what you’re going to get. Last week, Ellen took the big boys (Isaiah and Isaac) to Cub Scouts, leaving me with the littles (Ethan and Evan). Anytime I’m solely responsible for the kids, it feels a bit like the blind leading the blind. Chaos isn’t just likely—it’s guaranteed.

Washington County has recently gained a new Blessing Box! One of many in the county, this new box is located in the Salem Community Park on Parkview Drive.
