Mrs. Pamela Faye Hensley, aged 67 of New Washington, passed away July 8th, at Baptist Floyd. Mrs. Hensley was born on July 25th, 1957 in Salem. The daughter of John Edward and Evelyn Faye Jackson Lincks. She was a member of the first Baptist church in Jeffersonville and dedicated her life to serving her Lord and serving her family.

A major change is coming to one of Washington County’s most well-known events. The Washington County Chamber of Commerce has announced in a press release that "Friday Night on the Square," a community tradition since 1991, will move from its usual Friday evening timeslot to a new Saturday afternoon format starting this fall.

Rex Baldwin, age 71 of Salem, passed away June 30, 2025 at Baptist Health Floyd.

John Joseph Hattabaugh, age 40 of Campbellsburg, Indiana passed away Monday, July 7, 2025 at 6:52 pm, in Ascension St. Vincent Hospital Indianapolis, Indianapolis, Indiana. Born November 11, 1984 in Salem, Indiana, he was the son of the late John Stephen Hattabaugh and Terrie Kinzi.

On July 2, 2025, emergency responders were called to the area near Dutch Creek Road and Buffalo Trace Road, just off State Road 135, following reports of a serious vehicle crash.

Christine E. Voyles, age 76, of Salem, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2025 at her residence. Born October 3, 1948 in Vicco, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Everett and Lillian Carroll Everage.

Martha Elizabeth Mantooth, 87, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025, at Arlington Place Health Campus. She was born on September 14, 1937, in Indianapolis, IN to the late Mike and Carrie (Davis) Garland.

Fern Blanton, age 79, of Salem passed away Thursday, July 3, 2025 at Ascension St. Vincent Salem Hospital. Born December 9, 1945 in Harlan, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Oscar Howard and Parley (Taylor) Howard.

William Claude Maness, age 80, of Salem, passed away Monday, July 7, 2025 at Salem Crossing. Mr. Maness was born October 15, 1944 in Lee County, Virginia, the son of Creed Maness and Olga Coomer Maness.

A couple of years ago, Ellen and I took on a really cool project—we restored a historic home in our community. The Lanning House, built in 1873, was charming but in desperate need of some TLC.

The final phase of construction is underway for Ryder Johnson’s new home, a custom-built house designed to meet the needs of the five-year-old boy living with an ultra-rare genetic disorder known as Xq23 Deletion. The project, led by the nonprofit faith-based group Hope With A Hammer, has drawn continued support from local volunteers, churches, and donors since work first began last year.
